OPERA, the Festival of Music Theatre, is a prestigious showcase of the best opera productions of Czech and Moravian professional opera ensembles established by the state or municipalities, and the projects of other independent entities are currently an essential part of the programme. Since 2015, Slovak professional companies have been participating in the festival.

The festival has been held every other year since 1993 on the stages of the National Theatre and in other theatrical and non-theatrical venues. It enables regular comparisons of the direction and level of individual companies and expands the opera offer in Prague – it offers titles that have not been performed in Prague for several decades (or even at all), as well as a different view of the titles currently in the repertoire of Prague theatres. Last but not least, the festival also introduces remarkable personalities (directors, conductors, singers and other artists) working on regional opera stages and in the alternative theatre environment.

The patronage of the festival was taken over by:
Mgr. Martin Baxa,
Minister of Culture of the Czech Republic

doc. MUDr. Bohuslav Svoboda, CSc.,
Mayor of the City of Prague

Honorary Festival Committee:
Dagmar Pecková, Peter Dvorský, Jan Klusák, Richard Novák, Štefan Margita, David Pountney
